decorating

The Hubs + I have held off buying new furniture for the past couple of years because we wanted to wait until we bought a house. Welps, the OC housing market pretty much blows. We’ve been looking on and off for the past three years and ughs, it’s such a pain. We’re hunkering down this year and *fingers crossed!* we’ll find something before the end of the year.

In the mean time, we’re going to start buying some new furniture so that when we move we’ll have more than a crib, dresser and an espresso maker in our new abode.

First up – a desk chair. Currently, we have a sixties era chair my dad took home after his office updated their furniture. I’m ordering this dining chair from West Elm which loooooove!

Next – a new bed. I’ve stalked the Crate & Barrel Colette Bed for.like.ever. We were *thisclose* to buying it last December, but The Hubs talked me into waiting until the Spring and now it’s gone up $200. ARGH!

We’ve searched high and low for something similar at a lower price point, but nothing is as fabulous as this bed.

It’s hard to decide to buy anything because The Hubs + I have such different styles. We might just have to have a his and hers everything in the next place to accommodate our decorating styles!

Never Say Never

Before the Munchkin was born and even before we got pregnant, the Hubs + I swore up and down that we would NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER co-sleep/bedshare.

Er, yeah, we didn’t stick to our guns.

For the first two weeks, the Munchkin slept in the bassinet part of her Bugaboo stroller while I slept on the couch. That worked fine until one night when she refused to sleep in her bassinet and I ended up cradling her in my arm while I slept on the couch. When I woke up the next morning, I realized that any movement I made would have pushed Munchie right off the couch! I don’t know how I stayed so still, must’ve been maternal instinct?

That night I decided to put her into bed with us since she still screamed bloody murder the moment we put her in the crib. She slept like a log waking only a couple of times to eat. Around 9 weeks we discovered that she would sleep in a pack and play, so we set one up in our bedroom. She slept from about 8-4, (which was AWESOME!) woke up at 4 to eat for a little bit and then went back down until 6:00 or 7:00.

It was EPIC. 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

Around 16 weeks she started waking up. A lot. At 11, 2, 3, 4, 5. WTH.

Her Ped said that she should be able to sleep through the night at this point, so when Munchie starts fussing at night, try to coax her back to sleep instead of feeding her. We tried that one night and when I went to check on Munchie, she was chomping on her left arm like there was no tomorrow. Girlfriend was HUNGRY!

She usually goes down at 8:30 in her pack and play, she gets up at 11, I feed her and put her back in the PNP, by the time the 2nd feeding at 2:00 a.m. rolls around, I just keep her in bed with us because I have to be up at 5 anyway to get ready for work.

This week, we tried putting her to bed with us from the get go and she slept 10 hours straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG!

I’ve been functioning on 3-4 hour spurts of sleep for the past two months. 10 hours was epic. So, we co-sleep. I know all the negatives, yada yada yada, but Momma’s got go get some rest so she can function so co-sleeping it is.

Also, who wouldn’t want to cuddle up next to this?!

The 50

All weekend long, I avoided the news. I would catch glimpses of the disasters in Japan, but would turn away and ignore it. This is very unlike me – you will often find me glued to the television, rapt, whenever big events happen anywhere.

By Monday, I gave in and started watching + reading and the pit in my stomach keeps on growing. I am especially drawn to the story of the 50 workers who have stayed behind at the Fukuskima Nuclear Power Plant desperately working to control the fires in the nuclear reactors.

I marvel at their bravery. I wonder how they are doing. I wonder what their families must think. I wonder if they have already lost a loved one in the earthquake and how if they have, they have to push aside their grief to do their job to protect their city and the surrounding areas.

I hope they know that people are rooting for them. I hope they know that we are amazed by their courage and that we are praying for them.

500 Places

The Hubs + I love to travel and we hope to impart some of our wanderlust to Munchie. I just picked up this book and I can’t wait to go through and plan some family trips.

We’re trying to figure out where to go this summer. Toronto is still on the radar – I can’t wait to my family to meet the Munchie, but we want to go somewhere relaxing too. A trip to Hawaii sounds good to me!

The Skinny

Wide leg jeans and trousers are all over the blogosphere. Seeing as my wardrobe is void anything wide leg, I trekked down to Nordstrom to test the wide leg waters with the J Brand Lovestory Jeans everyone seems to be so fond of.

Um, yea, they did not work on my post baby body. Despite the fact that I’m clocking in five pounds below my pre-baby weight, my body is sporting lumps and bumps that came from who knows where. It doesn’t help that I was about 25ish pounds overweight before I got pregnant.

That being said, I am still firmly entrenched in the skinny jean camp as they are the most flattering pant on me right now (or so I think). I bought a couple of pairs of jeggings/skinny jeans from F21 for about 9 bucks right after the Munchkin arrived and they have since grown too big for me. I took advantage of Piperlime’s Final Sale and picked up a few more pairs of skinny jeans. The first 40 pounds or so dropped off pretty quickly, but I feel like the last 25 pounds I need to lose are going to be much more stubborn, so I don’t feel too bad about spending moola on these as I will probably be wearing them for a while.

  1. 7 For All Mankind Gwenevere – Dove Grey – I became of obsessed with these when my sister bought them, but couldn’t bring myself to pay full price. When I spotted them on Piperlime for just $71, I had to get them. Also, the Munchie has grey skinnies too.
  2. J Brand 901 Legging – I love love love these leggings! The material is super thin and stretchy and are insanely comfortable. The wash is a very dark blue and I love it. I can wear them with boots that I normally can only wear with tights. I want to get them in every single color they come in. I’m sad they ran out of my size because I would totes buy a 2nd pair as back up.
  3. Current/Elliot 1989 – These leggings seriously feel like a pair of sweatpants. In fact, I think they might be even more comfy than sweatpants. The color is a dark blue with brown wash to it. Perfect to go with all the browns and mustards in the closet.
  4. 7 For All Mankind Gwenevere – Olive – My grey skinnies are so fab, I had to get the olive colored ones too. Also, I just could not get into the J Brand Houlihan cargo pant craze. I detest cargo pans on guys and gals. Anyhow, with these, I can get a similar look without giving into the cargo.

Suuuuuuuprise!!!!!!

My friends and family totally surprised me this weekend with a fabulous shabu party for my birthday! I am still 1 week from turning the big 3-0, but they surprised me early so throw me off track. I had no clue they were throwing the party, they pulled it off flawlessly!

I had a fabulous time, but my new mom-ness showed through when 8:30 rolled around and I was exhausted! I remember being in the middle of a conversation with someone and all I wanted to do was close my eyes.

Munchie has taken to waking up about three times a night when from December up until a few weeks ago, she was sleeping a good 6-7 hour stretch, hence my sleepiness. However, just the other night, she slept from 10:30-6!! I kept waking up to check on her, but she was sound asleep. Maybe this is her birthday present to her Momma. J

Edit: Whoops, the photo didn't post, so here's one of the Munch looking at me in her usual, "Whaaa??"
